In 1984, only two player agents were officially recognized by UEFA in Belgium: Hungarian-born Jenő Békeffy and Yugoslav Loubo Barin. Among the two, Békeffy was widely regarded as the most influential figure in Belgian sports management.
Over a 13-year period, Békeffy successfully completed more than 300 player transfers across Belgium and the Netherlands — the same number as all other Belgium-based agents combined during that time.
He worked closely with some of Europe’s top clubs, most notably RSC Anderlecht and AFC Ajax, and was instrumental in bringing many of the best Dutch and Danish players across the Belgian border. His transfers significantly shaped the competitive landscape of Belgian football in the 1980s.
This era marked the peak of Békeffy’s influence in European football, particularly within the Benelux region, where his expertise, connections, and negotiating skills set him apart in a rapidly evolving football industry.
