Jenő Békeffy began playing football with the children of his village in 1941. He was only six years old when he already felt that football was much more than just a game for him. Every time the ball reached his feet, a new world opened up before him—a world filled with hope and joy instead of war and deprivation. For his family, football was an escape from reality. When Jenő joined the Monori SzSe youth team, he became the pride of the village. Over the next five years, he achieved success after success, playing as a midfielder. His team won championships and remained undefeated, bringing rare joy and pride to the war-torn country. In 1947, at the age of twelve, Jenő was admitted to the Kecskemét Reformed High School, where he continued his career in the Kecskemét TE youth team for six years.
